The album is solid through and through with the music and the lyrics. They're emotionally devastating and often easy to relate to. The tone of the music matches the emotion of the lyrics and helps create a layer of atmosphere. If I have one minor criticism it's mostly in the production (something easily forgivable for an up and coming band) at times things can sound a bit muddled and the vocals sound a tad strained at times. There's nothing that really spoils the album or ruins the mood. Overall for a relatively new band this album really shows they know what they're doing.
The band clearly has a solid vision for their sound and it shows on this release. Void Of Compassion is something that must be heard for any fans of bands like Counterparts, early AFI, or Defeater. Creating moody sounds with emotional and relatable lyrics Years Apart have demonstrated they have what it takes.
