The biggest draw to this album is to hear Davey Havok screaming again, anyone who says this isn't what had their interest peaked either doesn't know who he is or is lying. Needless to say he's still got it. It's been over two albums and about eight years since we've heard this kind of aggressive vocal delivery from Havok. fans of AFI's earlier work up and through 2006's December Underground will find it comfortably familiar. As I said before this is an unapologetic straight edge album, it's very in your face about it. It's definitely going to rustle some feathers.
Mixing classic hardcore punk sound with modern hardcore and metal sounds, XTRMST hits hard and makes no excuses for their brutality. Raw and unapologetic XTRMST is a terribly fitting name for this band and this album. Any fans of hardcore, straight-edge, punk, and AFI should be running to pick this album up.
