Songs like Psychosis Succumbing feel like a trip simply based on the rhythm patterns and the way the song starts slow, speeds up, and slows again. Bedroots lays the bass on thick and heavy and drips with atmosphere. Yet songs like Omniphobia and Stay Scared sound closer to traditional hard rock songs.
Stay Lost is an apt name for the album, the entire album musically feels like a journey, you feel as if you're meandering through the ether guided by the smooth vocal work of Donovan Melero. I've praised his vocals before, there's only so many ways to say damn this guy can sing. Thankfully all the talent these band members posses never over power each other. You can easily hear the contributions each of them make. They feel layered together cohesively, they never feel like they're fighting to stand out over someone else.
Another example of the sheer amount of talent that this band has is the fact that Sianvar manages to sound completely different from the bands the members are a part of. Sianvar is way more than just a sum of its parts. Stay Lost is never as poppy as Dance Gavin Dance or as heavy as Hail The Sun or as Chaotic as A Lot Like Birds. The whole album feels unique, which is saying something considering we already got a Hail The Sun album this year and a new Dance Gavin Dance and A Lot Like Birds albums are on their way.
Sianvar have managed to outdo themselves with Stay Lost. Not only have they come together to make something completely unique from their respective other bands, but they've made an album full of experimentation and progression that also channels prog rock of the past. Stay Lost is a true introduction to this super group and I for one am happy to make their acquaintance.
