The band is not afraid to dip their toes in various genres and to pull from everything and anything. While generally more mellow than some of their contemporaries it works for the band. Songs like Seasons and the opening track Better have a definite math rock vibe to them with the guitars that seem to have a mind of their own and hectic drumming. On the other hand songs like Transient are more firmly seated in the realm of prog metal and post rock. The band experiments and explores and finds their mark every time. The takeaway from this is that the album never grows tiresome, it feels like a journey in your mind but one you want to be on.
Makari have cemented themselves as a powerhouse with their first album Hyperreal. This is an album you should just lay down, close your eyes, and put on. No need for drugs when you have music this good that will grab hold and never let go. Starting on a high note and ending on an even higher note with one of their most dynamic tracks the band are almost daring their contemporaries to one up them. This is a must listen for any fans of progressive post hardcore, prog rock, prog metal, and math rock. Forget reality, this is Hyperreal.
