I know I'm harping on this but again it's due to the imagery (yes I am aware of the phrase don't judge a book by its cover), but while there's some dark elements there aren't any horror punk songs. The opening track Secret Society starts with a guitar part reminiscent of something from AFI circa 2000, kinda dark and haunting, it's nice slow intro track. The second track Valentine is more traditional in it's new wave punk sound.
They released a video for the track Black Mass and here's the closest I would say they get to sounding like the Misfits. It's the perfect blend of pulsing punk beats, an intense bass line, and features an awesome almost 50's doo wop breakdown in the middle. The closing track Astral Projection is another stand out with the way it switches it up from hard punk beats to a slower and softer sound.
Creeper is like if you threw AFI, Alkaline Trio, Misfits, and The Swellers into a blender. This EP is a nice taste of their unique brand of punk rock. Personally, especially with the branding, I'd like to see them head more towards horror punk, but that's not so much a criticism as a selfish want. What they do give us is five varied songs all dripping with talent and style. If you haven't heard Creeper yet this is a great opportunity to get into them.
