This album takes all of that and turns it up to eleven. From the opening track, which is just instrumental surf rock, all the way through songs like Chainsaw Massacre told from the point of the view of Leatherface, a song that is more dark humor than it is horrific, the album never lets up. Even the slower songs like Graveyard Tree II, which is a continuation of the song Graveyard Tree off their debut, are fun to listen to. However the crown jewel, the creme de la creme, the epitome of all things psychobilly, one the best songs on this album, from this band, in the genre, and of all time, has to be Perfect Suicide.
Now to be fair it may be perhaps because this was the first song I heard from the band, but I really love this song for everything it is. The opening 'Bum bum' of the bass, frontman Vic Victor's vocal range demonstrated on the track, the dark lyrics about an alien race hiding as humans, trying to bring peace and tell people about the end of the world, being persecuted, and then ultimately committing suicide to "...shed this mortal life...", everything on this track is just perfection. If I had to choose one song to represent the band it would be Perfect Suicide.
So after ten years how does Inhumane hold up? To this day it is still one of their best albums and one of the best in the genre as a whole. It just blends all the elements of psychobilly together in a nice smooth stew. It's crass, it's over the top, it's loud, it's fast, it's everything pyschobilly should be.
